This television had been sitting in a box for years in the spare room of a friend of mine's house. Once, when staying over one night I took it out the box and plugged it in to see if it still worked. Switching it on a grainy black and white picture slowly came in to existence and then having tuned it as best I could, sat there on the bed watching fuzzy television until the early hours.
The next day I got up early, snuck out and quietly hid the television in the boot of my car. I returned home and began devising a campaign to give it away.
Soon after I had designed a simple poster which read: 'this is not mine to give away - who wants it?' It also had a photograph of the television and a mobile telephone number to call. In addition to this if you called the mobile number, a voicemail recording simply asked: 'Why have you called this number?'.
Posters were put up in several cities including Sheffield, London, Bristol and a slew of other places in between: Railway stations, street corners, even on bins. No phone call was ever received from its rightful owner.
